These easy pie crust recipes will remain imprinted in your mind, since they are very short and simple. You can double or triple the doses to make a whole bunch, freeze them and use them for every pie recipe in the next 3 months.

Easy Pie Crust Recipes for Your Homemade Pies

Of all the cooking endeavors you’ll carry out in your kitchen, the pie crust recipes are the simplest ones. You can have only the basic cooking skills and absolutely no talent, and still ace these easy pie crust recipes:

Fluffy Pie Crust Recipes No. 1

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 and 1/2 unsalted butter sticks, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 3 – 5 tablespoons ice water

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and add the butter. Mix until the dough appears crumbly. Then, start adding tablespoons of cold water. Add one tablespoon at a time. When the dough starts sticking together in a ball, you can transfer it to a counter over a thin layer of flour. Fold and press the dough a few times, then wrap it tightly with plastic foil or a bag. Keep it refrigerated for at least two hours before forming it into a crust in the pie dish.

Whole Wheat Pie Crust Recipes No. 2

  • 1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 teaspoons sugar, granulated or brown
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup shortening, or lard
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 7 – 10 tablespoons cold water

Mix the dry ingredients then add the butter. Mix well and add the lard or shortening. If you do not prefer to use these fats, you can replace them with butter. Once the mix starts to blend and you can easily form a ball, transfer the dough onto a flat, clean surface. Fold and press until you make sure it’s not too dry or wet, and then cover with a plastic bag and let chill. Let it sit in a cold and dark place for at least 2 hours before you start forming your pie crust in the dish.

Cooking tips and tricks

Whole wheat flour is healthier than processed white flours, but it’s quite different than other flours. It requires more moisture than processed flours and the end result is not as elastic as it should be. That’s why you should either use more butter, or more water in your pie crust recipes. If you want to experiment and make a white flour pie crust with wheat flour, start by replacing only one third of the flour amount.

You can make several pie crusts and keep them in the freezer for up to 3 months. Unfreeze, press and fold a couple of times and flatten the dough inside your pie dish. You can make a chicken pot pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie or any other pie dish you know using these crust recipes.

You can always add your own spices to mix things up and make the crust more flavorsome and delicious. You can add cinnamon, nutmeg, more sugar or cut the sugar all together. Instead of water, you can use buttermilk, regular milk or almond milk. Just make sure it’s cold, not room temperature.
